Why We Fell in Love with Mallorca (and Why Allegory Events Is the Secret to a Beautiful, Stress-Free Wedding There)
By Laura Zhang
THE ISLAND WHERE IT ALL BEGAN
Three years ago, my husband (then, boyfriend), Eugene, and I were wandering through Europe on a remote-working summer when we made it to Mallorca, Spain. We’re both tennis fans and one of our earliest bonding moments was passionately debating the Federer-Nadal rivalry—him on Team Roger, me on Team Rafa. Growing up, I somehow knew Rafa Nadal was from Mallorca before I could even point it out on a map.
But beyond that highly specific connection, we fell in love with the island the moment we arrived: clear blue skies, shimmering waters, sweeping groves of olive trees, and clay-toned buildings contrasting boldly with green window shutters. We drove across the island with the windows down (on the way to Rafa Nadal Academy in Manacor, no less), lounged on the beach in Santanyí, weaved through the narrow streets of Deià, and laughed until our cheeks hurt over glasses of excellent and affordable wine.
Fast forward to 2024, when boyfriend turned into fiancé and wedding planning first crept up, we imagined a destination that would let our guests exhale, relax, and just enjoy. We had recently moved to Berlin and Europe suddenly felt like our oyster. Puglia, Barcelona, and Lisbon came up as options, but we kept going back to Mallorca. Not only did it hold profound memories for us, but it also felt like the perfect summer prelude for our friends and family.
In the end, Mallorca was the clear choice for us. If you’re considering it as your wedding destination, here are three reasons why it’s worth it:
1) There’s no shortage of picture-perfect venues here, whatever your style may be: We wanted the rustic charm of a finca—a Spanish countryside estate—and the stars aligned for us to book Finca Morneta. But traditional fincas aren’t for everyone. For couples seeking finca-inspired charm with the comforts of an intimate boutique hotel, the newly opened Son Xotano and Finca Serena are where the dancefloor will be just steps away from your room. Design enthusiasts will adore Cap Rocat, an ancient fortress by the sea with a stylish pool. Nature lovers can exchange vows beneath a lush green canopy at Jardines de Alfabia.
2) There’s so much culture, history, and beauty to take in, for you and your guests: Many of our guests turned the trip into weeklong holiday, slowing down to explore everything from centuries-old landmarks like the Cathedral of Santa Maria of Palma (La Seu) to the dramatic cliffs of Cap de Formentor. It’s the perfect place to keep guests happily occupied while you handle those last-minute wedding details. After all, Mallorca really does have something for everyone: tennis and golf players, foodies, beach-goers, and history buffs alike. With an island this special, the gifts also practically pick themselves. We chose small tins of organic olive oil from SONMO—a local spot known for handmade ceramics, Mallorcan wool, and other artisanal goodies—as our wedding favors, so our guests could bring a little bit of the island home.
3) You’ll have access to the same dream team of suppliers that we did: The people in Mallorca are genuinely so warm and welcoming. With so many weddings taking place there every year, the local suppliers know how to get it right without a hitch. Our wedding simply wouldn’t have been the same without this group of local Mallorcan professionals:
Grupo Amida for catering
Anna Ustymenko for hair and makeup
Pau and Adrián from The Travelfilm for videography
Esperanza from Tartamania for our wedding cake
Panela Productions for cocktail hour vocals
Lucas Chito for sound production and our dancefloor DJ
Grupo Tot a Punt for all our furniture and tableware
MemoDreams for drawing robots and a magazine box photobooth
Molinillo Espresso Bar for a late-night coffee stop
With Frances’ vast network across Europe, we also had the privilege of bringing in talented suppliers from outside of Mallorca, like our photographer, Camilla Urrea; our stationary designer, Tanya from Bureau Design; our florists Dani and Foix from 2ManyFlowers; and our assistant day-of coordinator, Maria from Un Poco de Tul.
THE WONDER WOMAN BEHIND IT ALL
Speaking of our dream team, let’s talk about the beating heart of the whole operation: Frances. Planning a wedding from another country was intimidating for Eugene and me. We desperately needed someone who knew the landscape inside and out—an industry expert who could tell us which caterer would truly shine, which florist or stationery designer could bring our colorful and funky vision to life, and how to make our guests feel deeply cared for, especially since most of them would be traveling painfully far to celebrate with us.
A quick Google search brought us to THE WED’s 15 Best Wedding Planners in Europe list, and naturally, Frances and Allegory Events. Drawn to her elegant aesthetic and diverse set of experiences, we set up an introductory call. Within ten minutes of meeting Frances, feeling her infectious energy and shoot-it-straight attitude, we were sold.
It’s hard to put into words how lucky we felt to have Frances in our corner, who made planning a wedding abroad feel far less daunting than it did at the start. She handled the weighty things, like securing our dream venue with just a few summer dates left, negotiating packages with suppliers, and organizing tastings and visits. But she never overlooked the thoughtful touches most people would glaze over: ideating ways to include important family members who unfortunately couldn’t be there with us; printing and hand-delivering menus and name cards from the UK to Mallorca; and even connecting us with a trusted local childcare service for friends traveling with kids. Frances gathered a team of professionals who matched our taste and values, and manifested the playful, easygoing, holiday vibe we had hoped for.
There’s no other way to put it: May 15th, 2025, was pure magic.
